I had an amazing experience sea kayaking with Kuma in mid-June 2025. My Japanese is very elementary, and Kuma did a great job explaining everything to me in English. Out of all the tours I did in Shiretoko, the sea kayaking experience was my favorite. I enjoyed being able to get some exercise in on a double kayak with Kuma, and most of all being able to get up close to the cliffs, waterfalls, and other beautiful features Shiretoko has to offer! We saw many sea birds including spectacled guillemot eating a fish it just caught, and a glimpse of a white tailed eagle. We also saw some cool jellyfish. Kuma did a great job maneuvering the kayak to position me under the waterfall so I could experience the water falling onto me, as well as getting me close to some fresh water to drink. We also got to eat some fresh kombu! Thank you so much for this great experience! I highly recommend it to anyone who is adventurous and enjoys putting in some effort! If possible, check weather before you book - I booked on a day that was predicted to be sunny and clear, the days before and after were predicted to be cloudy and rainy.
